School bus management

Summary

In Kinshasa, more and more parents send their children to schools located far from their homes. In a city known for its traffic jams and the delays they cause, getting children from their homes to school and from school to their homes safely is not an easy task.

Challenge

How to combine respect for arrival times in class, child safety and keep parents informed of the movements of their children between school and home?

How to ensure that school bus drivers respect routes, drop off children at approved stops and drive in accordance with the highway code?

How to track the fuel consumption of school buses and the execution of routine maintenance?

Solution

A. modular system composed of:

  • A web application for the School Administration, intended to manage buses, drivers, routes, stops and subscriptions;
  • A mobile application for drivers;
  • A mobile app for parents.
  1. The web application is the School Administration Control Center.
L’application web est le Centre de contrôle de l’Administration de l’école.

Thanks to it, the bus manager has control over everything needed to manage logistics in an educational institution, namely:

  • Buses and drivers available in real time;
  • Schedules and routes;
  • The children to be transported as well as the parents to be notified.

The manager can therefore:

  • Create and modify routes and schedules;
  • Assign buses to drivers;
  • Monitor the quality of driving of drivers;
  • Know the fuel consumption of buses.

The buses are equipped with:

  • 3 cameras for real-time viewing of the children and the driver;
  • A GPS to track the location of the bus in real time;
  • Access card reading units to know which child got on or got off the bus.

    b.The mobile app for parents notifies parents of their children's movements and any emergency such as a change of bus, route or timetable.

As soon as the child is registered in the system, the parent receives a registration link for the installation of the mobile application, with a temporary password (OTP).

The buses are equipped with an RFID card reader that can read children's access cards so that parents are notified each time their children get on or off the bus.

Apps tracking

    c. The mobile application for drivers informs the driver of the route to follow, the children to be transported and their addresses.

In the event of a problem with the RFID card readers, the mobile driver application can allow the driver to register children getting on or off the bus so that their parents are notified of their children's movements.
